Most small businesses do not realize how well inserts work in the newspaper. It seems that the newspaper display advertising people are always trying to sell them display ads, but often they don’t work very well and their shelf life is just one day. However, if you put an insert in the newspaper with a coupon, it usually falls out of the newspaper on to their lap – then they pick it up and have to read it. And you don’t know how long they might keep that coupon, therefore the shelf life increases exponentially.
But it even gets better than this if you know how to work the system, and if you realize that most of the inserts going into the newspaper are on Thursdays, or Wednesdays for Thursday grocery store sales ads. If you have put your business flyers, as inserts on Monday, then you would find that your inserts would have no competition from other inserts, and if the coupon was good enough, people would keep it. This especially works good for companies who want people to come in during the beginning of the week rather than the end of the week.
Formerly, I was in the car wash business and we used to send these out all the time on Mondays, and rarely were there any other inserts in the newspaper on that day, no one wanted the Monday slot, and that meant we got that day all to ourselves. Better yet, in the car wash business Monday, Tuesday Wednesday are generally slow days, and we didn’t need any more business on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.
If you use the strategy of advertising with Newspaper inserts correctly, you can get a lot of bang for your buck. It’s too bad more small businesses don’t realize this, and it seems to be a Forgotten Lost Art. Indeed, I hope you’ll please consider this.
